Bringing the best out of each horse and rider.
Bringing the best out of each horse and rider.
If you are looking for a prospect to give a future to, or build with a finished horse to learn to win, Heart S horses have what you are looking for!
I have a lot of clients that want to keep moving forward in their barrel journey and I always tell them there will be a wall you will hit.
Now that wall is different for everyone and when it will arrive, but the key factor I see over and over is the fitness and training of the horse. We all only have so many hours in a day and trying to put those towards our goals can be frustrating when we cant give that time to it. Riding for 2-3 times a week is good, but when your horse doesn't have any more "air" to give you, re-evaluating where your efforts are going is important. To get a top athlete you need to treat them as one. Most top trainers are working their horses 5-6 times a week and depending on the age and what the horse needs that can be pattern, drill work, or just keeping them fit.
The other thing I see when getting those quicker times, is the training of the horse. Little things can cost seconds or even half a second and those all matter in barrel racing. Making sure they can engage their hind and fore quarters is usually the first thing I am fixing when doing tune ups. Its not pattern work, its getting that horse more responsive to the small ques and using their bodies correctly. A lot of times, I see horses that speed was added to quickly and I have to break them down to the basics again. Every time you add speed, there will be learning curves for the horse to iron out. If they have the correct foundation those things will smooth themselves out easily.
Every horse and program is different, but making sure your horse has all the tools to use is what makes or breaks these riders and horses. SO! Is it really the horse has no more to give? or is your horse really fit and ready?
After taking some time to focus on my horses, its now time to help you with yours!
The first clinic of the year will be at the ranch in Sulphur Bluff. Still only accepting 15 riders so that everyone can get that individual touch. Spots will only be held once deposit is placed. Make sure you don't miss out on a great day of learning and horsemanship!
